By now you should have a fairly good\nidea of where the \u201ctrouble spots\u201d are on your current website and better\nunderstand the information that visitors are finding attractive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Goal setting means that we can now align what you want the\nwebsite visitors to do with what the website visitors think they want. Let\u2019s\nuse John S. as an example. John is working on creating a new kind of mouse trap\nfor his company. He needs a specific type of latch that will lock when the\nmouse enters but won\u2019t accidentally lock when there\u2019s no mouse around. He has a\ndrawing of his invention and is looking for a metal working company who can\nmake a prototype for him so that he can confirm it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You own a metal working shop and your website has a page\nthat lists all the machines you have in your shop and another page that lists\nall the materials you work with. You also have a contact form page and, of\ncourse, a home page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The goal now is to align the content on your website with\nthe information that John needs in order to make a buying decision so that he\nwill contact you about his project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Put yourself in John\u2019s shoes. What is the most important\nthing that John needs to know right now? My guess is that you do prototypes \u2013\neven better if you can take a project from prototype to production, don\u2019t you\nthink? Perhaps that\u2019s something that should be mentioned on your home page and,\neven have a page of its own if its in line with what you want to do. (If\nprototyping is not something you want to do, then kiss John goodbye and set a\ngoal for those looking for what you offer.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
